Heart of Gold

August 9th, 2009 my 12 year old niece left for her hockey game. Another game to play waiting for the calls after to hear how many goals she scored today. Instead I got a call from the hospital Jamie was hurt. She went to get back on the ice and could not move. We had no idea what could have happened. After hours of testing we learned Jamie suffered a stroke. Not understanding how this could happen to such a healthy young girl we were just searching how to get her back. We got a phone call about a week after this happened from the man with the heart of gold David Dansereau. He also suffered a stoke at an early age and again later in life. He came to visit my niece and has not left her side. He has helped in her recovery and will continue until the day Jamie is back on skates. That is just the beginning of what an amazing person he is. On April 20, 2009 he ran the Boston Marathon in honor of Jamie as his stroke hero. We went to Boston pulled our chairs up front at the finish line and waited until we saw Dave cross the line. There he was we all were screaming Dave!! Jamie had the biggest smile on her face as he ran over. He did it!! 26.2 miles! What an accomplishment. We all met back at the Lenox Hotel for a get together with all the runners. Dave then handed over his medal to Jamie because he ran the marathon for her. He is an inspiration to all of our family with the physical and emotional help he extends to Jamie and many others. Dave we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
